Activities

Gilwell are asking for more activities & better variety in group programmes.
Activities = air/water/land/camping/creative/DOE/technology
Safety is paramount hence POR
Capitation pays mainly for insurance covering liability – so long as the
rules & requirements have been followed the organisation will support leaders.
Activities require a DC’ permission which can be 1. Long Standing or 2. Per activity
Parents permission
Risk assess – what/who/how – reduce risk/training required
1st aid cover
CRB checks
Home Contact POR9.3
Driving rules
Nights away permit POR9.57
Adventurous Activity Permit POR9.7

A-Z Activities on Scoutbase = paperwork required
County Assessors look @ persons technical capability – DC considers
assessors recommendation & other considerations B4 issuing a permit
Teams of 7 persons max Terrain 0, 1 & 2

Looking to do a Dads & Lads Camp (or family member) later this year - possibly
instead of Rimmington Challenge this year. Any interest as the adults will
have to get CRB clearance.

Entries open for 2009 Apex Overnight Challenge

Now is the time to enter one of the biggest events on the Scouting calendar - the Apex Ovenight Challenge. This huge weekend competition is taking place two weeks earlier than usual in Sherwood Forest on the 18th-19th April 2009.

More than 200 Explorers and Network members are expected to take part in the event, which is now regarded as the top event of its kind in the UK.

More than a dozen exciting and challenging activities will be on offer including an exhilirating high level ropes course, a range of inflatable challenges and a brand new 'caving' experience. Teams will be entering from accross the UK.

Entry is in teams of four and costs £50 per team which would work out at only £12.50 per person including all food, camp fees and activities - making this a great value Scout competition.

11.02.09 Wed - I need the permission forms for everyone wanting to do the Freezer Camp! Drop them off with Ian @ Hoyland Scouts. If I don't have your form by 21:00hrs you're not going! Anyone 18yrs+ I need a CRB form off you or again, no go!

14.02.09 Sat - 9am at Hoyland Common HQ 1st Aid training - I'll open up and contact Tim Hague.
